Start your day with a visit to one of the most majestic cenotes in the region. Enjoy this jewel of Mexican nature by swimming in its crystal clear waters, ziplining and abseiling (optional). Visit the archaeological area of Ek’Balam, one of the best-preserved sites of its time. The archaeological site is located about 1 hour and 50 minutes from Playa del Carmen. Ek’Balam means “black jaguar” in Mayan. Discover the angels’ unique sculptures that you will not see anywhere else. This site was one of the most powerful, due to its construction and its extent in the jungle. It was known in the 19th century, but excavations began in the 1990s, making Ek Balam the new treasure of the Yucatan Peninsula. When archaeologists discovered it, it was just earth. After clearing the site, a 31-metre-high building has found its place in the middle of the lush vegetation. You will have the opportunity to climb to the top of the main pyramid to admire the spectacular view over the jungle. During this expedition, you will visit a Mayan community and discover the traditional Mayan purification ceremony. You will visit the community’s botanical garden and a typical Mayan house. End with a tasting of typical preparations specially made for you.
